Coolio makes a rare appearance on the screen in this dark comedy about playing it dirty with insurance money. Down and out mattress store employee Rob (Mark Greenfield) and Manny (Coolio) seem like they can’t take another day at Affordable Mattress when a beautiful new co-worker lets them in on a scheme to murder her ex-husband and split the life insurance money. As an enthusiastic Amazon reviewer writes: “GREAT movie to watch after a bad day at work!”

JAIL CAESAR

Filmed in three of the most notorious prisons in the world, Jail Caesar uses both acclaimed actors (Derek Jacobi, John Kani and Alice Krige) and actual inmates incarcerated in these prisons to re-enact the tale of the turbulent young Julius Caesar. WATERBOYS

Waterboys tells a humorous and moving story of the evolving relationship between crime novelist Victor (Leopold Witte) and his cello-playing son Zack (Tim Linde). When Zack is dumped by his girlfriend and Victor is dumped by Zack’s mother on the same day, the two men grieve and briefly console one another before heading off on a trip to Scotland where Victor hopes to promote his latest book and spend some bonding time with Zack. Victor’s selfish tendencies nearly alienate the fragile relationship he shares with his son, and the trip becomes increasingly turbulent as the reasons for the pairs domestic troubles come to light.
NUCLEAR NIGHTMARES

From the late science writer Nigel Calder comes Nuclear Nightmares, a visually frightening examination of the world’s Cold War era nuclear weapon infrastructure. Host Peter Ustinov utilizes his wit and charm to narrate for the viewer how the US command and control system functions in both training and in the event of an actual retaliatory nuclear strike, and the chilling means by which airpower, nuclear submarines and underground ICBM launch pads are employed to ensure absolute vengeance on the aggressor. Throughout the film, Ustinov colorfully illustrates several scenarious of what might happen if the missiles are unleashed and so commences ‘the war that must never happen.’

Telling the story of the Hollywood 10, this classic documentary explores how the House Un-American Activities Committee was able to summon before it American citizens of the motion picture industry and interrogate them about their political affiliations and beliefs. The trip serves as an opportunity for Victor to rekindle the fragile bond he shares with Zack, but nearly backfires when Victor takes it upon himself to help sort out Zack’s girl troubles by meddling in his personal affairs.
THE CHRONICLES OF MELANIE

Based on the true story of Melanija Vanaga, this film is a brutally realistic and terrifying account of the mass deportation of residents of Soviet-occupied Latvia that took place in June 1941. At the outset, Melanie and her husband are arrested and forcibly separated at gunpoint and loaded into cattle cars. Melanie spends 16 years in a Siberian prison camp before learning of her husband’s fate.
THE MAGIC SHOW

The filmed version of the highly successful Broadway play The Magic Show brings magical illusions, as well as music by the Oscar-winning composer of Pocahontas and The Prince of Egypt to the story of a talented young magician who must hold his own when he is brought into an obscure New York nightclub to replace the over-the-hill Van Ziskin, who does not take kindly to Doug’s arrival.
THE SHEPHERD

A middle-aged sheep herder lives a spartan but content life which becomes threatened the day two construction developers appear with an offer to buy his house and land, which he has no interest in selling. Owners of the surrounding lands who are interested in selling their plots become hostile towards him when the developers threaten to rescind their purchase offers if the shepherd does not sell.

MINKOWSKI SAGA

A work opportunity for French opera conductor Marc Minkowski brings him to Warsaw, where he enlists the help of filmmaker Rafael Lewandowski, Polish historians, and surviving descendants of the Minkowski family to research the earliest traces of his great grandparents, August and Tekla Minkowski who were philanthropers and members of Warsaw’s elite society before the war destroyed their legacy.
THE TWO HORSES OF GENGHIS KHAN
(2009, Documentary)
Singer Urna Chahar Tugchi travels from Inner to Outer Mongolia to search for the missing verses once engraved on her grandmother’s beloved horse head violin, which was destroyed during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. It was her grandmother’s wish for the violin to be restored and given back it’s beautiful sound. For Urna, the restoration of the violin represents preservation of sacred traditions.
