Few films can match this film noir classic. It works on different levels, one as an incredibly compelling crime drama with the murder victim (Edmund O’Brien) desperately trying to solve his own murder. CPA Frank Bigelow (O’Brien) has innocently notarized a bill of sale, such a small thing he doesn’t even remember doing it, but inadvertently he has signed his own death warrant. He becomes involved in a wild night out which results in someone slipping him a drink with iridium poison. On another level his bad decisions force him to realize that he has all that he needs in the love of a beautiful woman. The final jolt, after tracking down his killer, he enters the homicide division of the LA Police Department to report a murder…his own…and this is where the film begins!
