Tailor is a dramatic Greek comedy about innovating to the extreme to keep a small business afloat. Nikos, the film’s namesake, is the last hope for his father’s enterprise: a reputable tailor shop that makes custom men’s suits. However, due to changing times, Nikos is unable to remain solvent.
Long in arrears with payments to their lender, the bank informs the father and son team that they must foreclose on their assets. Making matters more complicated, the father suddenly falls ill, leaving Nikos to figure out how to get cash coming in quickly. Niko’s luck holds up when his neighbor, Olga, reveals a talent for sewing and a desire to enter the garment business. They quickly team up and begin producing extravagant bridal wear that becomes the rage of Athens…much to the dismay of Olga’s jealous husband, who hardly approves of their relationship.
“Superlatively written and directed, with visual storytelling derived from the silent comedy tradition, Kenterman’s first feature is pure pleasure from first to last frame.”
